If you have trouble urinating, you may have scar tissue narrowing your urethra. If so, surgery may be needed to repair the urethra. This surgery is called a urethroplasty. The success rate is excellent.

If the obstruction is longer or in the urethra of the penis, the surgeon removes tissue from the mouth, genitals, or rectum to complement the incised (cut) tissue of the urethra. The incision is then closed, and a small drain is left in place, usually for about a day. There is a catheter to heal the urethra while urine is still leaving the body. Your muscles and skin will be closed with sutures absorbed by your body – you don’t have to remove them.
